Key project points

Longevity
A permanent semi-integral bridge structure, resistant to future fire and flood events, ensuring the community’s long-term connectivity.

Adaptability
Flexibility in adapting to a remote location and changing conditions, such as floods and bushfires.

Careful Planning
The project required meticulous planning to address the environmental challenges and mitigate risks effectively.

Innovative Design
Utilises Magnelis® steel, providing outstanding corrosion protection and durability.

The location

Belowra is a remote rural location in the Eurobodalla local government area in NSW. Approximately 288 km south of Sydney and covers an area of 378 km2 encompassing a picturesque rural landscape.

‍

It has a recorded population of just nine residents. The area is well-suited for outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, birdwatching, and exploring the scenic countryside.

Challenges

The project faced multiple challenges due to its remote location within National Parks and Nature Reserves, prone to bushfires and difficult access. Additionally, floods further complicated the situation by washing away the side track, hindering access.

Operating in such protected areas required excellent coordination with stakeholders, including park authorities, conservation organisations, and local communities. We successfully navigated these challenges which required careful planning, adaptability, and a commitment to environmental sustainability.

How we helped

Eurobodalla Shire Council completed this project by July 2021, highlighting the importance of creating a robust and reliable infrastructure capable of serving the community for 100 years or more.

This semi-integral multi-span bridge using Magnelis® steel framework, serves as a link, connecting residents to nearby communities, emergency access, and National parks. Designed to be more climate resilient.
