The location

Silo Farm Bridge is located in the Eurobodalla region of New South Wales, crossing the Tuross River near Bodalla. The bridge forms a critical transport connection for two dairy farms and the surrounding rural community.

‍

Due to its location on a flood-prone section of the river, reliable access has historically been challenged during periods of heavy rainfall and elevated river flows. The crossing plays an important role in supporting regional agricultural activity and local connectivity.

Challenges

The existing bridge was frequently submerged during flood events, limiting access for residents, emergency services, and agricultural operators. During major flooding, milk collection vehicles were unable to access local dairy farms, resulting in significant product losses and financial impacts for producers.

‍

Frequent closures also disrupted community connectivity and created operational challenges for essential services. The replacement bridge needed to reduce these disruptions while improving long-term resilience to future flood events.

How we helped

InQuik delivered a new 92.5-meter bridge designed to significantly improve access during adverse weather conditions. By raising the bridge level by 1.5 meters and reducing the number of piers within the waterway, the structure provides greater flood immunity and allows debris to pass more freely beneath the bridge during high-flow events.

‍

The bridge incorporates durable concrete and steel construction, delivering a robust asset with a 100-year design life. The completed crossing helps protect community connectivity, support local industry, and minimize the economic impacts associated with prolonged flood closures.
