Key project points

Customized Bridge Design
Originally designed as a single-span bridge, the project was reconfigured into a 27.4m multi-span structure with a 4% crossfall to improve the alignment of Boyland Road.

Council-Led Construction
Scenic Rim Regional Council successfully delivered the project using its own in-house construction crews, demonstrating the practicality of the InQuik system.

Adaptable Modular Solution
InQuik modified and supplied bridge components to accommodate project design changes without compromising.

Enhanced Road Safety
The bridge realignment improved the horizontal geometry of the roadway, creating a safer and more efficient crossing for road users.

Government Funded
Jointly funded by Scenic Rim Regional Council and the Australian Government under the Bridges Renewal Program Round Three.

The location

Cavell Bridge is located on Boyland Road within the Scenic Rim region of South East Queensland. The crossing forms part of the local transport network, supporting connectivity for residents, businesses, and agricultural operators throughout the region.

‍

The replacement project upgraded an aging timber structure with a modern bridge designed to meet current performance standards. The improved alignment also enhances the approach geometry for road users traveling through the corridor.

Challenges

The project underwent significant design development as site requirements evolved. What began as a single-span bridge was redesigned as a longer multi-span structure with a crossfall to facilitate road realignment and improve overall safety outcomes.

‍

The project team also needed to clearly define design responsibilities across civil, structural, bridge, and piling elements. Detailed flood assessments identified additional lateral and uplift forces that required bespoke engineering solutions beyond standard bridge details.

How we helped

InQuik provided detailed bridge design services and adapted its modular bridge system to accommodate changing project requirements. Working alongside project partners, the design evolved from a standard single-span arrangement into a unique multi-span configuration specifically tailored to the site.

‍

Additional lateral restraint measures were incorporated to address flood loading and uplift requirements identified during detailed design. The completed bridge demonstrates the flexibility of the InQuik system while enabling Scenic Rim Regional Council's own crews to successfully deliver the construction works.
