The Mambo Wetlands Bridge replaced a collapsed culvert with a durable prefabricated bridge, minimising disturbance to the surrounding wetlands.

Delivered following the collapse of a storm-damaged culvert, the Mambo Wetlands Bridge provided a long-term replacement solution that minimised environmental impact, accelerated construction, and improved safety for both motorists and pedestrians.
The project is located on Port Stephens Foreshore Drive in Salamander Bay, adjacent to the environmentally significant Mambo Wetlands.
The wetlands are a highly valued natural asset that supports diverse ecosystems and is an important recreational area for the local community.
The road serves as a key connection for residents and visitors, making its restoration a priority following the collapse of the existing culvert. The site also experiences coastal environmental conditions that demand durable, long-term infrastructure solutions.
Severe storms in 2021 caused the failure of the existing culvert, forcing the closure of a critical section of road. Council needed to identify a replacement structure that could be delivered within a constrained timeframe while meeting strict environmental requirements.
The proximity of the wetlands and estuary limited construction methodologies and required a solution that would minimise disturbance to sensitive habitats.
At the same time, the replacement structure needed to provide a long design life in a corrosive coastal environment.
InQuik provided a prefabricated bridge solution that could be installed efficiently with minimal impact on the surrounding environment.
The top-down construction method reduced disruption to the estuary while eliminating the need for extensive excavation and spoil generation. Grade 316 stainless steel cladding was incorporated to enhance durability and support the required design life in the coastal setting.
The completed structure not only restored a critical transport connection but also delivered improved safety outcomes through the inclusion of a dedicated shared pedestrian pathway.
